North Channel, Canada

Off to the North Channel
Have to cross the Mighty Mac and head east.

Landed in Gore Bay at dinner time and loaded the boat and had dinner at the Gore Bay Restaurant.

Teds passion next to sailing was fishing and he keep us in fine fiddle with boat loads of fish for every dinner if we wanted them.

Had a skippers meeting with Ken and discovered all the do's and don'ts. He asked if anyone had any dogs, I said I had 3. There was a groan, but Ted finished the sentence with, Yea, and they all are at home. He was visibly relieved.

We had a great westerly and headed to Little Current for ice cream. The current was hauling the mail west and so was the wind. We made the 4:00 bridge but he had to try twice to get it open the wind was so strong. We did not dare get to close before it was opened because both the current and wind was verrrry strong.

We made it!

Past Strawberry Island Lighthouse

                                                           Anchored in Haywood Island
Now the story goes that last year there were a Mama Bear and two cubs that boarded a few boats in this cove and had a great picnic. we keep a good look out but did not see any bears.

                                                            No anchoring to shore here.

We headed out early to sail the fiord Baie Fine and get to the pool.

Then we climbed the mountain to Lake Topaz

                                                                        Lake Topaz
                                                           I sprinkled Kirks ashes.
Out in the middle of Lake Topaz.

We had a fun crew aboard. The Weiners!

Got the classic pose over looking The Pool.

                                                                    The classic AYC pose.

Next stop was Mary Ann Cove. We had to find the start point of the death march. A triangle rock somewhere on the shore. Tricky but we found it. This was also in honor of Kirk, sailing in the North Channel without a death march is just not right, Kirks favorite hike.

Found "Fat Mans Misery" and looks like lightning took it down, it was all black and charred.
And yes the hike was worth it, mosquitos and all.
                                                                   Spectacular view!

Kilarney passage to Little current and MacGregor Bay on the left.

We sailed up the Landsdowne Channel to Kilarney.

Unfortunately someone stole the router to the movie machine and there was no Boat In Movie for the night.

Sunrises and sunsets were out of this world.

Teds latest toy I discovered was Navionics. The best navigation app I have yet to come across.
This can get you through any small passage of rocks you want. And yes we wanted it to.

We went back by Strawberry Lighthouse headed to the Benjamins.

On the way to the Benjamins we made a quick stop for dinner. Granpa Bosworth let a secret slip. Mama B was cooking fish for dinner. \delicious!

Last cove was in the big bay between the Benjamins. Made a carin in honor of last cove.

The highway from above. Red granite rocks.
Now this is where Navionics showed its worth.
Although I have been through here before and knew it would work. Ted was a little sceptical.

Rocks on both sides, but narie a scratch.
Then it was back to reality on the other side of the Mighty Mac.
